Default Newbie with some questions....replicating Corel's Power Clip

Having been a Corel champion for years, I've just discovered Xara, downloaded it during their anniversary sale, and am astonished at what it can do and what people have done with it. Amazing! BUT, I've got some questions for you experienced Xtremers who might also know Corel.

Is there a way (there must be...) to replicate Corel's "Power Clip: place inside container" function? For non-Corel users, that enables one to draw a shape, any shape, and lock an image inside it, so the image's shape takes on that of the drawn one, essentially cropping out what it doesn't need. Man, was that hard for me to explain! Oh, and it can even be done with text. I KNOW, just know this must be able to be done in Xara Xtreme, but can't figure out how. Help???

    Thanx
    Pamela

    Hi and welcome.

    It sure is!
Draw the shape that's supposed to clip your drawing (make sure this drawing is grouped though, or only containing 1 shape). Put this clipping shape behind the drawing. Select both the clipping shape and the drawing and go to Arrange > Apply clipview
Search clipview in the Xara help file for more info

You'll find some good tips in the video tutorials, delivered with Xara Xtreme:
    • Choose Menu "Help" -> "Movies"
    • Look at the video "Photo crop" in the section "Working with photos"

    Regards,
    Remi

As with most things there is always another way.
Draw your shape then choose the fill tool and from the drop-down select 'Bitmap' and if you already have your pic up you will find it is in the list of fills.
Yet another way is to use the Ctrl + 2 method.
How many progs offer you three ways of doing the same thing?
