Default linear transparency to two edges of the same object

How does one apply a linear transparency to two edges of the same object?
I have a rectangle that I want the bottom edge faded and the right edge faded. When I try to acheive that using the linear transparency tool I can get one edge like I want but when I try to do the second edge the first one is undone.

    What am I missing here?

You cannot apply transparency twice. You could apply transparency and make a bitmap copy, and apply transparency to the copy.

I made a feathered rectangle and made a bitmap copy. Then used the copy to invoke transparency, and adjusted the fill position.

Linear transparencies can only be applied in one direction. If you try a second transparency it canels out the first.

Try creating 3 rectangles and applying different linear transparencies to two of them or try applying a 3 point transparency.

    Thanks folks.
I tried all the suggestions. The suggestion that worked best for this situation was making a bitmap copy that had been feathered. That let me trim off the edges that could not be feathered while leaving the other two feathered.

    Much thanks again.

Actually, you can, with a small trick:

Unless I am missing something here, simply apply a Linear transparency and select the Repeating Tiling Option.
