Smile Question about Xara X1 and Xara Xtreme, with Windows 2000 SP4

    Hi guys and gals,
I have been experiencing lately corrupted .xar files
I am wondering if this is related to Xara X1 and Xtreme
    having compatibility issues with Sp4?

I have some important .xar files that I cannot restore
even with the file corruption recovery utility
    mentioned in the forums,

Some of the file sizes are 60mb
they are 18x24 inches in size,
they were customer designs for magnetic signs,

I wish I knew what was going on,

    Have plenty of memory, 3gb
    160 gb hard drive
    any insight to this problem
    would be most appreciated.

    Sincerely
    Jeff

The larger the file size the more time it takes to render.
It may seem like nothing is happening, but it takes a long time to display such a large file.
If you wait long enough it may eventually come into view.
There is really no reason to create a file that big ( in my opinion).
Just make a smaller version, then scale up if necessary for printing.

The file size is due to using combination tiff, which a background was scanned in at 600 dpi from a product brochure , combined with vector
this is why the file size is large.

What happens when you try loading these "corrupt" xar files? Do you get an error message of any sort?

Can you make any of the files available for download? The smallest one that doesn't work would do for starters. If it needs to be private then send me a private message with the details and I'll see if anything can be done...

Do what GerryI recommends first for your file recovery.

Then, if you get back on your feet with your files...

It could be a a hard disk defragmentation problem.

If you hard disk hasn't been defragmented, your files could be stored in tiny chunks scattered all over your hard disk more susceptible to corruption. With large files this increases the liklihood.

I would schedule regular defragmentation when you are sleeping, maybe once a week at 3 a.m. in the morning, if you are sleeping then that is.

I would save my important files to a CD/DVD, backup is always good. Especially if it is your bread and butter.

I would run defragmentation utility in safe mode.
Reboot Computer, tap F8 key gently until you see a menu pop up
    Choose Safe Mode
    Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter
