I been using xara so long that I forgot to use illustrator. How many of you guys feel the same? Are we missing out? I don't think I am!

I haven't used Illustrator in so long I'm not sure it is installed on either of my Windows computers any more. My Linux computer is only used for the good stuff (namely Xara LX) .

the only time i use it for defining pantone and when asked to send illustrator files to printers. Most times Tif is the way to go.

I can hardly wait at work not to have to deal with those dreaded files. Most of the time I get in files that are not printable, guess what software they used?
I have had a few clients that really want to furnish us correct artwork and call me up to ask about gripper margins, dpi, etc., only one time has anyone asked that used that illy-what-ever-it-is.
Oh, we should be polite, there is an AI forum here now.
Perhaps they will see all the great posts and try Xara, do you think?
As far as spot colors go, you can always give the printer a grayscale image for each plate, you know what your colors are, and bypass that Illy thing that way, besides the print preview isn't the best preview of spot color and the adjustment output to plate are, like someone's secretary designed it that never worked for a printer or did prepress.
I have used coloring layers when I had to, but if you want a good print preview of all your plate output, so you haven't missed anything, then use DRAW for that, if nothing else. There is better spot color support, and many tools work similarily to Xara. That is if you aren't intimidated by the interface, lots more dodads and buttons.
Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

Illustrator is a fine program and it has its uses. I use it frequently. But for ease of use, and features I really can use all the time, nothing comes close to Xara.
But then if I said anything else you'd think I was ingesting mushrooms, eh?

So-how about that hot weather.... ;-)
Seriously though-while Illy does have it's uses, we know about Xara, so it's hard not to boast... :-)
