Thread: Fill Problem

    Default Fill Problem

    Hi Folks,
I have a pink aligator fill I love it and it fills nicely with no seams.
So....I wanted to make it purple (I know...you gotta love my color choices
so I put the fill on my page and changed it to purple. To use the purple as a fill, I figured I could make a bitmap copy and then it would fill in purple.
Well, it did.....but....there was a thin white line around the purple fill.

Again, when it was the original pink there was no line....once I changed it to purple there was a line....
I'm attaching the file so you can see.....but if you look at it at 100% you'll see several horizontal lines across the purple shape but none on the pink

Any ideas how I can make this fill different colors without getting that line?

    Thanks so much,
    Belle
PS...just a quick thank you. You guys are the best. I've learned so much about this program since I've been reading this board.fill issue_Belle.xar

if you had the rectangle over the pink area when you created the bitmap copy it would antialias to the pink - place it over a purple area and it should work ok.

I didn'T....had it off to the side where it is on the file....off the "page"
The little pink rectangle is my original file.....I duped it and colored it purple, then made the bit copy....it's on the right....again, off the "paper"
used the bitmap copy to fill the large putple rectangle...you can see the lines.

    Hi Belle,

I used your pink gator skin and cloned it. Then I changed the colour to purple with dark crevasses. The new image was exported as a jpg and then imported back into Xara Xtreme so it would show in the bitmap gallery. I filed your second rectangle with the imported jpg and the white lines where no longer visible. I changed the units from inches to pixels before beginning, which may have made a diffence in the output.

Take a copy of your original pink copy and place it over a rectangle in the color purple that you intend the final purple tile to be.
    - next, change the pink tile to purple
    - create a bitmap copy of this image
The resulting bitmap will tile without lines.

Great...two ways to fix the issue....I love you guys!!!

So if I export it to a jpg instead of just making a bitmap copy the lines aren't there....
Seems like that's a little simpler than having to make the rectangle

but I surely appreciate having the options.

Soquili....do you have any idea where that line came from in the first place?
It seems like if you make a bitmap copy of something without a line....the finished bitmap shouldn't have a line? No?

    Thanks again...

    Belle,

The line appears to have been a fluk of antialiasing. The non-printing background (light gray) was light enough to cause the line. When I checked your pink version's height dimension it was not an even number of pixels, 149.3 and the purple copy you made was 149.4 for some reason. That was enough to cause antialiasing to make the white edge along the bottom of your purple gator skin.

If you change the original image to an even number of pixels before making the change, the problem would not have occured.

Oh Soquili....thanks so much, that is sooo good to know.
I've noticed on other things that sometimes there's a line, other times there isn't but had no idea why.

    If I wasn't old....and already married.....I'd ask you to go steady!!! {Grin}
