missing step from Egg's BLEND tut?

anyone remember?
I'm in the middle of working on a vase.....(hypothetically)....and I clone my vase with the shape editor nodes intact. In Egg's tut, he then would use the selector tool to SELECT one side of the handles/nodes (the vase is already selected so the 'handles' are present). this caused those handles to increase in size and become available in this special one-sided shape-editing way. what is done to enable the marquee to reselect one side of the vase handles and work in this way? thankyou

after selecting the object, use the shape editor tool and "draw" a box around just the handles you want

yes thankyou Bob, but that's exactly what I'm doing and the marquee along w ith the nodes of the clone disappear. nothing gets a special selection. do I need to use a key or something while doing that particular kind of selection?

select the object with the selector tool
nodes should be visible
draw around the ones you want with the shape editor tool

that should do it....
otherwise, i'm at a loss

thanks very much for help, Bob but I just got it to work for the first time ever!! when I hold down cntl/shift then click on to make the marquee--it works
