Hi. Perhaps you folks already know the following "technique",
but I'll share it anyway, as a means of creating some art,
(personalized or commercial).
In essence, you're taking some text ... such as someone's name,
a sentiment (such as "God bless you"), or a favorite quote, and
applying a favorite brush to that text.
Here's the steps:
1) Type your text, being sure to set it to "no color fill" (transparent).
Thus, your text will appear with just the line color.
2) With the text selected, click Arrange >> Convert to Editable Shapes.
3) Now choose Arrange >. Ungroup. (You may have to repeat this step.)
This should make the former group of letters into seperate, editable
letters. To verify that this has happened, when you now click on
the letters, the handles will now surround the individual letters, and
not the text as a group.
Optional : use the Shape Editor Tool to re-shape, twist, distort the
individual letters to suit your taste.
4) Apply your brush to the individual letter. The brush will follow the
"outline" of the letter. You may need to edit the brush, changing the
spacing, rotation, fill properties, etc.
Below are two graphics. I took the text phrase "God bless you", and
followed the steps above. I then applied a brush I made previously
which has the phrase "I love you", to the seperate letter G. Likewise,
on the other graphic is a smiley-face brush applied to the same G.
You could use this "technique" to make personalized gifts for others,
such as their name being "composed" of your brush ... or conveying
a wish or sentiment or thought to them, all consisting of your brush.
Happy exploring.
