How to install Xara X when you receive the CD

Hello

I am running the downloaded version Xara X and I have now received the CD.

1) Do I have to install the program over again?
2) If I must, do I have to unistall the one I am running now?
3) Do I have to do a CLEAN UNINSTALL? (I have had MANY PROBLEMS with with other progams when I install OVER them)
4) How do I do a Clean Uninstall?
5) What happens to the Xara project files I have saved to date?

Hi Candoo
I would go into Control Panel / Add Remove programs. Remove the d/l version of XaraXtreme.
Insert the CD ROM and install this version.
The latest patch is 2.0f, so if your CD version is 2.0e goto http://www.xara.com/downloads/xtreme/ and download and install this latest patch.

Your Xara project files should remain intact, but just to double check make a back-up version of your files. (I don't know where you have them stored)

Thanks for the info.

I ask these install questions because when it comes to upgrade I break into a cold sweat. With some programs a "simple upgrade" can turn into the BSOD, registry editing, and could lead to reformating your hard drive.

I figure it's better safe than sorry.

I recently ordered Xara Xtreme and wonder if the CD you received already had the latest patch installed? Also, how long did you have to wait for the CD to arrive after it was ordered? They told me it could take up to 28 days. Like yourself, I want to remove the trial version and registry entries ahead of time for a clean install. I agree that some upgrades can be a nightmare. Thanks.

i BELIEVE i read in some thread in this forum that you should simply install it over the old one

try a search for installation or something

Took about 10 days or so for my CD to arrive as I recall.

I just uninstalled the old one, popped the CD in and it worked with little problems.

I dont' even recall if I had to enter the serial number or it was pre-burned. Sorry, my memory brain cells are showing themselves in the form of grey hairs now.

Hello,

This is how I installed the CD.

1) I closed all running programs
2) Uninstalled Xara with "Windows Add Remove Programs" in the contol panel.
3) Cleaned out my cache and temp files.
4) Did a regedit. In my case all Xara entries in the registry were gone.

CAUTION! When you edit the registry always back it up first and create a
restore point in windows. Just in case.
5) Reboot
6) Again closed all running progams (Anti virus, Anti spyware, Firewall etc).
7) Install Xara CD.

As for the CD, it is version 2.0e. You must download the 2.0f patch to your desktop and install it. To install the patch you must close all running progams and double click on the file. For me this worked like a charm.

I hope this will help some users.

Note: It took 6 days to receive the CD.
