No more animated Avatar gifs?

Yup ...I was Gonna use one of my Creations Too ...It said cannot load animated Avatars!

Just been looking at this. You can post a link to an image file in another server. For example here's one hosted by Image Shack. If you post that link you get an animated gif no problem.

That's strange, I just uploaded one and it works fine as I hope you can see. (I'll change my avatar back to a static one in 24 hours)

Maybe they were forbiden for security reasons. The best way to be sure that an ulpoaded image is a real image (not a php code with '.gif' filename ) is to resize the image. The animated images fail this test.

I've used that method (i.e. use URL of image) so far and it hasn't worked.
Not even with the image you posted, Egg (at imageshack). Got the same error as when I used other servers

I think mods have other priviledges than members

That's very strange. It works everytime for me. Perhaps it's a moderator setting?

VB does have a 'tick box' for allow animated avatars (yes/no) within the admin control panel and this can be set differently for different user groups so Egg is probably right that it is set differently here for moderators. I can't remember when this was first introduced but it may have been when 3.5 was released.
