Hi there Im a newbie to the forums, Ive just bought Xara X and Im wondering if it is possible to edit text that is already on a banner, but the banner was not made with Xara.

Welcome to the forum.

If the banner is not in a vector format that is importable into Xara X, X¹, or Xtreme it cannot be edited. The banner is most likely in a .gif or .jpg file which is a rastor (also known as a bitmapped image) format. The text will not actually be text but a collection of coloured pixels within the file.

If you are wanting the shape the text is on, you could re-create the shape within Xara. I recently post a mini-tutorial about making a shape from a rastor image http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=20648 post five in the thread contains the mini-tutorial.

Once you have opened your banner in Xara, select the text tool and move it over the text. If the text is editable as text then the I beam mouse pointer should change. Then just click and edit.
