Default Xtreme LX Source now available

Yes, it has happened! The source code to Xara Xtreme LX is now available for you to download and build!

Please read the "license and contributing" page if you intend to submit changes to the project.

We're looking forward to receiving contributions to help implement more of Xtreme's functionality in LX.

    Great news! :)

However, for easier packaging, could you rename (or alias) the source code archive (http://www.xaraxtreme.org/downloads/XaraLX.tar.bz2) to include a version number (or a date)?

Then, in the "COPYING" file, in the archive, it is stated: "This project is intended to be released under the GNU Public License v2, but as of now remains proprietary. This file to be changed on GPL release.". What does it mean exactly?

And finally, in the build instructions (http://www.xaraxtreme.org/developers...ructions.html), it is stated "Currently we're using some bug fixes that has been added to the CVS version of wxWidgets, but isn't in the release version.". Are these bug fixes major enough to require the use of the CVS version, to simply test the software, before the next wxWidgets stable version?

    Thanx in advance,

    Cya :)

    Great news!

You may be interested to learn that we offer Xara LX testing packages via klik. These allow you to run Xara or Xara-latest without installing it even. (klik packages run from USB sticks as well as directly from a CD).

I introduced the xara kliks in this forum posting. Read it to get more background info.

Once you have the klik client installed, clicking on klik://xara-latest will bring you the latest build directly onto your desktop, embedding everything it needs into one single, self-containing xara-latest.cmg file. (To get rid of it again, just delete the *.cmg file -- your package manager will be un-affected by klik at all times!).

    Cheers,
    Kurt [klik Developer Team member]

It means I forgot to fix the file. See the file LICENSE instead. I've now fixed it.

Yes they are sufficiently major to cause problems. The wxWidgets folks have today release 2.6.3-rc2, which has all the necessary fixes in, and which you can get as a tarball rather than worrying about CVS. I expect 2.6.3 in a week or two.
