I've tried importing .wmf files and I'm having the following problems:

I import the .wmf file, can see it on the screen,
but I can't select it, it acts is if nothing is there! But when I select the Pen Tool my
image does a redraw then ungroups itself.

WMF is very inefficient and a large complicated image can tax X's ability to render it. The problem might be time related, i.e. if you wait long enough it will work, especially if you reduce the quality setting. Ideally you should use a different format, but if that isn't possible, you might get better results with CorelXARA 2.

We are looking at the import/export of WMF at the moment, but, as Sean describes, it is a nightmare format with very limited features, e.g. no graduations, and this requires exported files to be huge with enormous numbers of objects to deliver accurate rendering of images.

Had the same problem as Jeff in XaraX beta, but wmf files imported and behaved fine in version 2.

Thanks all. Unfortunatly I'm stuck, for now anyways, with the .wmf format, I've been exporting
Autocad drawings via a utility called Plotwmf that
allows me to keep all my lineweight settings and
scale, I then add color, bitmaps, etc. in xara,
I've worked with many different programs, and none
can compare with xara, I had no problems, other than the "hurry up and wait" with bigger files in the previous versions, I'm hoping it's an easy fix.
    xara rules.

Hi Jeff: This is Carl over at Leesak. I saw you comments and just wondered if there is another program that might take the wmf files and convert those to another format and retain the linewidths from autocad. Thanks for turning us on to Xara, the XaraX looks great with the new features. Take care.

    Carl,
I've had mixed results with different formats,
and different programs, using any of the raster
formats kills the line quality, and since
the linework was drawn in autocad, we need a
    vector/raster program that can read a .dxf,.wmf
I tried both Coreldraw, and Illustrator but I
still have to bring it back into Xara to get the results I like. Some people I've talked to do the the plans and elevs. in either Draw or Illus. from the start, but with the tight deadlines we're
used to, those two programs are'nt quite there yet, especially when you've got dd's and cd's going at the same time.

If you can get the drawing into DRAW (via a PLT/HPGL file if DXF doesn't work), you can export to Xara on the clipboard or via a CMX file (which are the same thing). Xara's previous links with Corel ensure CMX is imported seamlessly.

(Microsoft) Visio 2000 can handle DXF and has a variety of export formats...
