Just a thought - Could it be possible they want to be able to zoom in close and see what kind of detail they are really getting?

If I can, I'll send them pdf's with vectors, however in practice the proofs are works-in-progress so I'll almost always send bitmap/gifs/jpegs.

I've also found that if I get colour shifts on certain objects its very often becuase the object has an RGB fill, while all the other objects have CMYK fills or vise-versa.

Be firm and say all you can export is Tiff, and thats it
Good God what did people do before there was pdf.

Be the man and say no. Either cmyk tif or they can take their work somewhere else.
