    Hi CDK,

    Welcome to the forum.

You will need to save your .ai file as version 7 to import it into Xara X¹ and Xtreme.

To export artwork to a legacy Illustrator format:

    Choose File > Export.
Type a filename, and choose a location for the file.
Choose Legacy Illustrator (*.AI) as the file format, and click Export.
In the Illustrator Legacy Options dialog box, select the version of Illustrator with which you want your file to be compatible.
Set additional options, and click OK:

    Hope this helps, Willy

I was having the same problem just now and found this thread. It worked although I had to export as Illustrator Legacy version 8. Version 7 wasn't an option in Illustrator CS. I also tried exporting in version 9 but Xtreme couldn't open it. So I guess you have to stick with 8.

Before finding this thread I exported to WMF and that worked as well.

I agree with Zeb, Legacy 8 works well if the drawing has little or no effects on it and you can edit it and re-export back into Illustrator with no problems.
