Default Beat To Death Question - Color Replace

    Greetings All,

I'm wondering if any new "think-arounds" have come up re replacing vector colors. I realize that if you are dealing with only a couple hundred shapes, it is no big deal. Just do them one at a time.

However, I often deal with 55,000 shapes, and they are quite interleaved.
One would think there would be a way, say, to change all the blacks to grey.

Remember the first Xara demo, where they change a red car to blue ? WOW !
But the parent/child color thing is tough to add after the fact.

    Any thoughts ???
    Rgds,

Isn't this what named colors is supposed to do for you?

If you create a named color, and draw with that color, you'll be able to change all of them at once easily, by editing the named color.

Best to name the colors before you create the 55,000 shapes though because you're quite right that it's a chore to do it "after the fact."

Expression/Acrylic does have a means for "selecting by color" -- If you're dealing with imported artwork you might try to use that program and make your changes (perhaps even putting some of the objects you need to give named colors onto a separate layer) before bringing it into Xara Xtreme.

The movie you can download at Xara.com about drawing the gel buttons tells you how named colors work and how to change the colors to what you want.

    Tad,

Named colours aren't assigned when using the tracer (and doing it manually would be really painful with 50000 shapes) but you are in luck as there is a workaround. Check out the XColour application on the XaraXone Freeware page. There's also a link there to a tutorial that Egg wrote.

    Default Thanks Risto, Thanks Egg

I guess I've got some work to do testing images.

    Really appreciate the info.

OH !! Double thanks to Brian Etherington, who wrote the utility.
