Default Not Sure How To Put A Rectangular Photo Into A Circle??

    Hello

I have a Rectangular Photo .jpg and I want to make the photo into a circular shape and not distort it, stretch it, or blur it.

I tried putting a circle around it to cut, but I end up with white edges and if I enlarge it, I lose most of my photo (in the middle of the circle). It's my dog who has very big ears.

I've tried using the mold tool and then clicking on the circular envelope. What this does is makes it into a circular form, but it has smaller images of the photo all around it.

I tried to put the photo into a circle by using join shapes, but this doesn't seem to do it either.

Is there a way I can make the photo circular, possibly by joining it with a circular shape, or maybe another option?

    Thanks

Dozens of ways... one would be to use a Clipview...

Daniel's method should work good for you, you should be able to select it and click no line if you don't want the line. You can also place the circle with no color on your picture and instead of doing a combine shape do a slice or intersect shapes with both the circle and the picture selected. I can't check all of the details right now cause Im on the laptop and I don't have Xara X1 installed here. Let us know how it works out. I want to see your doggy picture.

Here's another option (one of the ones mentioned by Bruce).

And if a frame is preferable to a mere line, try this.

And a third way, just to show off the versitality of Xara.
Create a circle, move to desired position, increase/decrease size as required.
Give No Line colour, No Fill colour. Ensure the size is in whole pixels.
    Arrange/Create Bitmap Copy
    Select True Colour + Alpha.

Or just do Groweb's 1st & 2nd steps. Select both the circle and the rectangular image. The use the menu option: Arrange>Combine Shapes>Intersect

The result will be the circular shape with the image as its fill.

I do this a lot and so have the process down to 2 key presses - shortcuts for the process Ross describes. Assuming you've drawn your circle and moved it where you require over your photo (make it semi transparent if you want to see through to the objects underneath), and assuming the circle is selected, you just need to do this:

    • Shift-click on photo behind (both objects are now selected)
    • Press Ctrl+3

    That's it.

You don't often need a single white/black contour around an object too do you?

I'd love a keyboard shortcut for that, or at least an option to change the default number of steps from 4 to 1!

Or (I'm surprised no one mentioned this method) create your circle to the desired size.

Set the outline color to none.

    Import your bitmap.

Select the circle, open the Bitmap Gallery (F11), select the image and press Fill.

Now select the circle with the Fill Tool and an L-shaped fill path with two arrows appears. You can scale the bitmap fill and rotate it if necessary. Drag the center control point and you can move the image around inside the circle.

To increase or decrease the size of the image, click on either of the small boxes at the ends of the arrows and then press the left and right arrow keys on you keyboard. Press the up or down arrow keys to rotate the fill.
