Invisible objects question.

Hello!

I've started to use clipviews alot, and my method is to mould objects and then select them into an invisible object.

This invisible object is causing me problems when I remove the clipview:

I cannot select it again, without selecting a region (and that doesn't work when I have other objects within that region).

I guess I could have used the layer gallery (arg), but I already discovered that I have 2 zombified invisible objects in my drawing since earlier edits.

What to do?

You could try viewing your clip in wireframe mode and CTRL selecting the clip, go back to high quality view and giving it a line width and colour. Remove the ClipView and you should be in business.

I use clips all the time and my technique is to save any clip shapes on a seperate layer and make it invisible until I need them again.

Any help?

I forgot all about the quality setting (never use it).

When I switched to wireframe mode, selecting the top object, and then tabbing down to the invisible objects did work.

Well odds my bodkins! You learn something new every day. I didn't realise about the Tab feature. No need to use the wire frame now. Just CTRL select anything in the clip and TAB away.

When you select the visible part of a ClipView object, two small lock symbols appear, one in the center and one top left. Click the center lock icon to edit the contents, click the top left lock icon to edit the container.

Giving the object a name makes it easy to select from the Name gallery even when it is in clip.

Give your invisible object a name.

I have troubled with this issue a number of times myself, and only with kludgy solutions. Thanks for the tips, guys!

The tab key also works inside a gradient fill http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Just tab away until the right control handle is highlighted.

...however, I'd just like to add two things:

1. All of you misunderstood me (again). http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif It was not the clipview I had troubles with, but rather the objects a removed clipview left behind.

2. Oddly enough, tabbing to find the invisible object did not work unless I had wireframe mode enabled (might be a one time hick-up though).

Anyway, all is well that ends well!
