Hi Richard and Graeme,

The florescent light is a remote possibility, for it to affect the monitor it would need to be within a few inches of the monitor. The ballast in the fixture is actually the culprit that affects electronic circuits. Here in the States it causes a 60 cycle inductance current in circuits, in other countries it would be 50 cycle inductance current.

The most probable cause of your problem would be a component in the monitor itself.

    for the time being!!

So I'm not going to stress out right now. The monitor is a couple/three years old, it was the original that I got with my first Gateway Computer, when I did my "upgrade" last year I saw no reason to pay for another monitor. Now I think maybe I should have. Oh well, live and learn!!
