Although some poeople would frown on this idea as being trivial, as long as it would have zero effect on the program's performance it couldn't hurt.

Windows XP can be skinned using some 3rd party programs and it's quite a nice thing really. Since you're staring at this interface for hours why not have the ability to make it look cool or whatever you want at the time . I imagine XaraX would be the only skinnable graphics app ut there ...or am I wrong.

Would some people take it as not serious if they read it was skinnable? Could this have a detrimental effect on new peoples' interest? Or would it be the other way around?

I think skins are very cool...though I must confess that I tried out a few of the third party Windows varieties and found the impact on my small machine's resources a bit too much and thus removed the programs...

I would rather see a few more cool tools taking up these resources...

    Ross,

I just noticed that I did not read you above mentioned original post. Shame on me, don't know how this could happen.

Apart from that, I would love Xara marketing a Xara X - Sandra B. Edition if that meant it would be delivered by Sandra herself and I'd get to touch her skin.

Probably not possible for $20 - $30, but I'd buy it anyway ....

You're using Win98 but for windowsXP this program below seems to do well and apparently has virtually no resource usage

Looks interesting Dave, though I must say my wee 266 celery would probably choke on XP...hehe, it's just a baby...

No chance. We's have to double the size of the program to accommodate all the power tools this would need.
Although four-color fills give you a great check pattern...

You know who Norm is! He's a part of American culture I wouldn't have thought made it across the pond.

Mick - you can see that skinning has captured many peoples imagination. Is the coding of xara suited to such concepts?

    Check this out http://www.directskin.com/ ...

    quote

"DirectSkin allows software developers to make their applications skinnable using WindowBlinds technology. A typical application can be turned into a skinnable one within a few minutes of integrating the DirectSkin OCX into the project."

Hmmm, annoyingly enough , the actual skins page is not found
