The rendering was done in Lightwave (and Xara X).

The split tool is particularly useful in Silo. It's truly interactive on subdivision surface. And here I didn't use any symmetry tool.

    A great fun !!!

You modeled the head in Silo? Very good Ivan, very good indeed... man, what a task that would have been

    Hi Ivan,

You are using Silo as a Master. How do you learn so quickly?

    Cool

That image would make a very interesting bump map with a few tweaks Ivan.

I used very simple solutions. The function I most often use is "extrude along normals", and I also used extensively the split tool to add details in some areas. I experienced the same kind of work in Lightwave modeler and I can say that despite some perfectible details in workflow that was much easier with Silo. The support of n-gons is of course a fantastic add on !

Below I show what was my first step. I have drawn a polygon and subdivided it, using split tool and the work grid. Afterwards, I used the "Modify/Shell" tool to extrude the first result. But I intentionnally didn't take care of precision because In real life there are no symmetrical faces !

I saved 14 steps in this session with the 1.0 release (I want to use all my 40 sessions before installing successively the two following trial version), without a crash. But I must recognize that I had some crashes in saving while working on other objects. I am waiting to see if those issues are solved now !

    Kindly,
    ivan

Here is the second step after some extrusions.

One can subdivide and unsubdivide at each time.

Another step after extrusion of the other parts of the head and the neck.

The step used for rendering, after fine tuning.
