As I furriously work on next month's tutorial, Realistic Neon, I came up with this easy way to create glass tubing. To make glass buttons, simply use a straight line with about 24-36 point line width and rounded end caps.

Whilst messing about with your technique I came across the following by error. It's great for making multi toned shades on an object.

Not as polished as yours Gary, but it's a great tip. Maybe you could run thru the steps in a bit more detail.

Great, Gary !!!
I used to make neon sculptures. If I had Xara then, I could have just drawn them and saved all the humming (transformers).
Your prowess continues to amaze.

Drawing believable glass tubes is supposed to be hard. Very nice Gary. Thanks!

Gary,

Again with the glass. This is becoming a serious fixation. Have you sought help, yet?

Kidding aside, it looks interesting. Now light it up, G!!

I've played with Gary's new invention and I found this.

Steps 1,2 are the same as in Gary's your tut.
3. Remove contour from the orginal shape, place the shape above the glass tube and apply some cute fill. Notice that contrast transparency looks unrealistic on the texture.
4. Why not make a bitmap copy of the tube again (on white background of course). Now it interacts with the marble background as we would expect in the reality.
5. Darken transparency applied on the bitmap
6. Mix transparency and the stained transparency on the top of it creates quite a satisfying effect.
