First of all, I use both Xara X and Photoshop, and I think they complement each other pretty well, so this post is not another "All that can be done with product A, I can do with product B but faster and better"!

I saw the posting about fire done with photoshop, so I started doodling around with Xara X to see if I could achieve a similar effect. This is the result, which I believe could have a bit better shapes on the flames with some tweaking.

I think you should try to maintain the shape of the flames as in the original. Let's make this a challenge and see how close we can come to the original.

    Any takers?

I had to go back and check and make sure you were labeling the bottom image the photoshop one and not the other way around. You got a very impressive glowing fire effect. I'd be more than a little interested to see/hear your technique.

I tried--it's not exactly the same flame shapes, but similar (freehand, no tracing), and it's not as soft in shading. More practice would eventually get there I think.

It is very hot! It also suggests that a more faithful copy would be feasible. I like your gold text much better than the original's boring grey text.

Did your technique use xara's blends? It appears that you may have used some in the background. flames. If you can get that soft shading you refer to - you'll have an awsome set of flames. As they are vector objects I wonder if there is the potentioal for later reuse of them. I'm thinking that flame groupings could be saved and then applied (perhaps using a mould to create further variety) to other letters.

I didn't use any blends! That right there may make all the difference--I think I could work them over more with that, and probably group the flame shapes for more use with other things...that's the neat thing about the vector shapes!!! Thanks for the comment and help...I just rarely have used blends of any sort and ought to work with them more.

Very impressive fire Maya, especially considering no blends were used.

Still not perfect, but critique is welcome
