I really like this work. I spent a lot of time in Japan, Korea and Viet Nam during my Navy days, oh so many years ago. And in Japan especially, they have a form of art where they embroider images onto a tightly woven grass mats. These are usually framed and hung in their homes and some are simply beautiful. You have captured those works perfectly.
Very nice use of color too.
Jack
And it looks like silk too, Judi. Nice technique.

Judi that is very nice. Did you use a fractal plasma fill to get the silk look?

Judi,
really like your creation, great idea!
Love the colors, too.
I like japanese family crests very much and think their use of black and white (or filled and empty) shapes is amazing. A lot of years ago I have tried to change them into dingbat fonts but at that time I didn't have the best tools for that work.
Your silk effect is simply fantastic!
Kindly,
ivan
Oh good, I'm glad it appears silky to you.
Soquili, I played around with using the plasma fill for a thread effect but couldn't get what I was after. I used the attached fill I made squeezing and elongating it and applied as a transparent overlay. To see what it was initially created for Look Here
Ivan, I would love to see what others could create for a family crest!
Judi
P.S. The fill, is free to whoever wants it.

And that idea with family crests is nice, although I don't know if my ascendats ever had one. According to my name "Chlebec" I should have bread or breadslice in my crest ;-)). Chlieb = bread. Chlebec could maybe be translated as Bready ;-).
Judi, that is a very clever use of your pattern. Thanks for sharing.
