    (sorry for the scrolling but I couldn't resist...!)

    "Name based" brushes can help to reach very highly customizable design !

    I am allways amazed by Risto's drawings. A long time ago I asked him if he was interested to see how his drawings could be introduced to brushes. He reply gently and sent me three drawings, amongs them my beloved "Vikings" one.
    After a lot of trials I forgot this subject for some months. Recently I tried to convert one of his Vikings to a gummy object and I was impressed !
    This first Risto's brush is based on the gummy stars brush experiment. But as I was not satisfied with the colorizing I have searched what I could do to have more control on inner colors in brushes. Yesterday I tried to build brushes with named objects, AND THAT WORKS !!!

    How to customize your drawing ?

    1. Draw and adjust a line with the "Vikings" Brush;

    2. convert it to shapes (Arrange>Convert Line to Shapes); the first difference you see is that the feathering of some inner objects come back;

    3. open the Name Gallery (Ctrl+Shift+F9); you see a serie of names, they correspond to the different overlaid shape used to build each Viking (in fact the brush is composed of only three different Vikings);

    4. now you can select and modify the settings separately for each of the three sorts of Vikings without ungrouping the objects; color, filling, transparency, ...and you can even add different kind of shadows to each selection !

    5. You must only ungroup the objects if you want change the order they are overlaid.

    6. You could also open the "New Brush Stroke" folder in the Line Gallery (F12), right click on the brush thumbnail, copy and paste the original shapes to your document and apply the changes to these ones. Then you could create a new brush with te modified objects.

    Have fun with it, and don't forget to thanks Risto for his so nice and funny drawings !

    ... Ivan for making me look so good! Your brushes are fantastic and I'm honored to have my vectors turned in to one of your brilliant creations.

    Your use of the name gallery to alter the brush characteristics was very clever!

    Thank you!

    Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee!

    Your designs are a splendid pretext to improvisation !

    I am trying to go further on the way of using Names inside brushes and I will probably update some of my older ones in this direction. I think this is a little revolution which could transform brushes into fantastic templates very close to "WebStyle" ones !
    The only little problem at this time is one must transform them to shapes before alterating their settings. Otherwise that could be a gigantic improvement if one could work more interactively inside brushes.

    Certainly I will show more samples here today.

    Kindly and friendly yours,

    ivan

    Here is a second attempt with more sophisticated "Naming" inside the brush.

    -1 You may easily change its color as a brush: right click on the color line;

    -2 you may convert it to shapes and change its appearance even more dramatically than the previous one via the Name Gallery!

    IMPORTANT TIP: if you want to change the color or transparency settings of selected a named group after converted to shapes, you can select alternatively the settings of the centers or the handles of all included shapes: Ctrl+Shift+click on one of the centers or handles; all other centers or handles will be selected toghether.

    Enjoy,

    ivan

    Get it there
