I have a very large ufo that I am saving as html. Some of the sliced images are saved as jpg and some as gif.

Is there a way to force either ?

Yes, you can force them all to be the same format. After you slice your image, select all cells, then click on the Slice Panel on the Attribute bar. When that opens, click on the Optimizer tab and select the format you want.

When creating of web-sites in PI, you should obligatory use "the knife" to divide the pictures.

When doing this choose the "extention" you can be advised to. After that open in the broser (better IE) and "save as..."

After that open the made file in any aditor you like and make additional changes. Delete all one colored squares etc.
The template for futher editing may look as
    Template 54

    The last template of mine
    Template 52

If a back ground of any cell is a picture which similar vertically you can cutt off a narrow line off it and change the background.
