Can you provide us a link to your review? Or are they print published? Being a fan of your prose from the start ... I'm curious of what this Xealot would make of a bitmap tool :-)))) Considering he's a vector-head at heart.

P.S. Love to see what that KPT review reveals as well....

The reviews are for Communication Arts Magazine. They have a web site but they do not generally publish software reveiws.

The Gel plugin can work from within Xara without a mask, you need to use the Gel Painter - this allows you to actually draw your gel onto your image. Getting the settings right is not that easy as some of the tools and options are not instinctive. The finished result returns to XaraX when you click OK.

I am going to e-mail you this as well - I hope you havent already submitted your review.

Thus it is possible to create plugins for Xara X which allow bitmap drawing (and I am sure bitmap selecting )!!!
I think Xara might take account of this possibility for the future release.

Thanks a lot Christine !!!

Kindly,

Christine is correct. You can draw with one of the five different Gel filter sets. All the others require a pixel selection.

On the other hand... this will be the August tutorial and absolutely no filters were used :-)

But your wrong again - Gel Painter and Crystal painter both work from brushes.

But I like the Xara version better anyway - much smoother effect.

Incidentally have you checked out the wrinkle effect in Dreamsuite 2 - this can also be manipulated with brushes but does affect the whole image initially.

Gary,

I just had to try your impressive gel Xara effect but I tried some different bitmaps behind it. I've now got an "old glass" effect instead
