Mike, no offense taken. I've thought about cleaning off the drive and installing Win2K but the then I remember how long it took me to install all the software http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Besides, I have a Win2K PC here as well. I installed XaraX¹ on it and the movies play from the Help menu.

    Same problem here.

    WinXP Pro SP2, fully patched.

When you launch movie help file from within Xara X1 (Help | Movies menu) and then click on a button to launch a movie, nothing happens.

However, launching the movie help file directly from
    C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara X1\HelpAndSupport\ENG\movies.chm

displays an error dialog with the title

    HTML Help Author Message

    and the text

    Unable to start "movieplayer.exe"

However, the program file movieplayer.exe does exist in the Xara X1 folder.

Also, clicking on the .avi movie files directly will launch Windows Media Player and play the selected movie.

That seems to be the general consensus of how to view the files...
I'm running XP pro SP2 also. At least there's an easy workaround.

Everything working fine here on Xara. But i´m still using SP1 on Windows XP. Haven´t got courage to install SP2 yet. Everything is fine with XP aswell so why should i take the risk of screw up everything installig SP2?
We never know what could happen http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif ....

And yes there´s a new movie available : "Create the ultimate gel button, from just 4 shapes, in just a few minutes". A very nice one http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif. It´s amazing how we can recreate the famous gel button with so few shapes , and the result is pretty notorius.
I bet almost all of us have tried to recreate it at least one time in Xara...

I've had the same problem not being able to play movies on an updated XP os computer, but there is a work-around:
If you go into your Xara X1 folder you will find a folder which contains the Camtasia player. Open the folder and double-click on the executable file. With the Camtasia window open, click on File>open and it should open to the folder with all the Xara movies. Click and play.

    The folder is located C:>Programs>Xara>XaraX1>Camtasia
