I tried to make a couple of gold pendants and a strand of pearls. Do they look real? Please critique. Its still in the making and will finally end up in my portfolio and maybe some other trinkets that I might add.

    What do you think guys?

I do see a couple of areas that convince me they are not real.

The beads, if you look at them. you have them coming in from the right but they look like they are going through the top of the heart through the left.

The background is "airbrushed" looking so it is not a realisitic background to play off of the light sources. Looks like you have a strong primary light source coming down from the left and a secondary light source coming up from the right. Maybe do a darkened background, maybe a texture or something, and include these light sources. It will add realisim to the composition.

Play around with these areas a little more, you will be surprised at the outcome.

I DO like the composition and the design quite a bit. Nice on the eyes.

And your CD cover too! It remembers me of old 78 turn bakelit phonographs discs.

Why did you say you didn' have inspiration?

    Kindly,

    Great tips. Thanks a lot.

You are too kind Ivan. Actually, your question made me think a bit. I do not really have a art education per se and so I do feel quite under-confident. but now I have started feeling ver much at home here and even started participating here. You guys are great.

Oneday I do hope I will be able to contribute as much as you guys do and learn too.

    Hi Quaker,

Very nice pendants. May I suggest you change the fill in the center. It looks like you have used a linear fill. Perhaps an elliptical fill would be more realistic. An example is attached.

It's nice Quaker but agree the background doesn't do much for it.

Here is an old thread on jewlery

There were a several on pearls too.

For the background - perhaps a nice neck or wrist.

My thoughts on how to make it better are similar to Soquili's. I'd recommend looking at this thread - in it GroWeb did a great job on the look of depth in a glassy object. In the same thread Gary gives some advice on using the contour tool in the development of highlights.
