I've always wanted to do animations like 'pythons terry gilliam. I haven't even looked at xaras animation facility yet, is it worth trying or do I need something a bit more sophisticated?
also does xara x animation do sound?

any feedback would be most welcome
    cheers

Funny Eric the 'alf a bee, when I read your title the first thing I thought of was Monty Python with the indignant John Cleese addressing Michael Palin.

'es not dead, 'es resting :-)

Xara's animation is limited to GIF without sound. This is not to say that there aren't some cool things you can do, however.

Check out these featured XaraXone artists

    Marcus Geduld

    Quentin Roper

Both Marcus and Quentin have created some very entertaining and amusing animations.

I think with a little dedication you could create some Terry Gilliam type animations in Xara. Why not?

Beautiful plumage. Nudge wink. I see, I get the picture, etc.

    Norwegian Blue

The best way to do this is first make the image about 1/2 this size.

Make everything in frame 1 the background. Then add frames and just animate the head or the hands, etc.

This way the background image is only rendered once and the resulting file size will be smaller.

Flash format is still one of the best ways of doing animation.
If you can't run to the full thing, try
    Swish - http://www.swishzone.com
    amazing for the price
    or
    KoolMoves - http://www.koolmoves.com
A bit more limited but does key frame and onion skins
Both export swf and import WMF, jpg or what ever
    and can include sounds.

Thanks Frank. I've been looking for something to create Flash animations and have been getting nowhere very fast. Will have a look at the two you point out. There is also another one which is Insane Flash Animator 1.0. I believe found out about it as I think it was recommended in the Internet Magazine a few months back. Have never really checked it out yet but if anyone is interested a trial version can be downloaded at:

i think xara is best suited to small gif animations? so i've loaded a copy of macromedia flash. think it's the one but i'm not sure, anyways i loaded it and aaarrrrgh!!! that interface looks very intimidating. so it looks like a bit of a learning curve, (anyone would swear it's a rip-off of the photoshop interface!!???)
so terry gilliams need not worry about his career...yet
    cheers

    Eric

I know you don't care for tutorials, at least you have never responded when I have recommended one, but I did two Xara and Flash tutorials earlier this year which can give you the basics and shorten the learning curve.

    February Tutorial and

    March Tutorial

Not much of a cheese shop, is it?
