This info is very useful. Now if Gidgit will stop posting links to neat 3D apps(have to admit I am a software junkie too especially when it is free)maybe I can settle in and completely learn what I have.
    Just kidding Gidgit.

but... it was so much fun Mike...

and besides, now that much of the basic box modeling theory has been discovered... it's all about practice till ya drop, or make a model, which ever comes first... and then another...etc.

I have pretty much nailed down which app contain which features and which import/export to what... the real shame is... any one of perhaps the top ten apps I have tried out are all good at certain areas but lack in other areas... areas so important that for all intensive purposes it is somewhat bewildering...

like for instance the simple yet powerful Move>Normal in Wings 3D...

or just the middle wheel rotate/zoom functions...

these type of tools really rock... and when you open up to some well known powerhouse app and find these simple but totaly workable features not present ya just sort of scratch your head... and though you want to work in said powerhouse app because of how handy it is to say do quick renders with shaders and the like, not to mention how easy said app moves around those poly's... but... nope, back to Wings3D... simply because it makes the most sense when box modeling...

pretty much so long as you reset your view from the git go, and know when to cut your model in half to work on one side, keep in mind loops, and do not smooth before ya have to... then all is well with creating with Wings... and though I would love to see a widgit incorped, which you could turn on and off like you can the grid etc, this puppy still really cooks...

Too funny... way too funny... thank goodness we found it and a few cool apps such as trueSpace 3, and or in my case C4Dv5, with which to render with...

Here's another one for ya... good thing we studied up on file format support...

Export as .obj file from Wings 3D and open in Carrara and all is converted to tri's... but... open said .obj file up in Metasquoia and then save as RayDreamStudio format then open into Carrara and voila quads preserved... funky... no mention of this anywhere I have found, yet highly important I should imagine...

How am I enjoying Lightwave... ? well, did I mention those little highly workable features found in Wings 3D... well... nuff said. Don't get me wrong here, there is little doubt that this is one mega monster powerhouse app with so many cool tools... but... for box modeling I'll stick with Wing's... funny thing is...

there are truly but only say four or five features that make or break this decision... mainly becuase they make that much difference over thousands of saved motions...not to mention ease of use re-middle button...so what's up with all the so called power apps... the big top five? How is it really, that one little poly modeler has sewn up such an interesting corner of 3D creation?

ah, I admit... I am forever in pursuit of the holy grail of 3D...

so there ya have it... we are having ton's of fun and gaining some very cool info along the way

    I am right with ya.
Did something kinda dumb when I installed Truespace.I thought the setup would create its on folder...Wrong.I had Truespace files every where in my programs folder and the app was not working very good at all.Accidently found out what I had done and corrected the problem.Truespace is working great now.
Just to show Gare I am listening and lookoing forward to the next lesson.
