    HI Charles,

If you can tell us what's NOT going to be included in this release that would be helpful to some but if you can't then you can't.

A 'round about' date of release would be fine, promise we won't hold you to it http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif but stress that it's a 'round about' date and I think folks will be mostly happy! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Just a couple of suggestions!

But the good news is that we are getting a new shadow icon! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

In Risto's defense, I think the comment was funny. If you look, there are 4 pages to that discussion thread about the appearance of the shadow icon. How unimportant is that?

I think Xara can suffer more than a little criticism on their timeliness and focus as it affects their revenue stream.

You can denigrate me for not buying the screensaver and donating to the cause, because I really don't need a screensaver. But I do know this update is long overdue. If Xara X remained their focus then I would have gladly ponied up the dough for a new and improved version.

As it stands, I will probably have to pick up the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily for Photoshop and InDesign and to a lesser degree for Illustrator as I have clients who tell me what a pain in the ass it is for them to deal with me and Xara(this was morning).

I don't expect a miracle from them in 7 days but I would like a significant update within less than 4 years. I really don't think that's too much to ask.

I hope it will be more than just improved icons.
But with their other releases like the screensaver and the X3d which are just shy of useful, I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

So let's wait and see what we get.

I thought it was pretty funny... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I also hope we are getting more than a re-skinned Xara X.

Yep, we get our priorities right and all engineering resources are going into creating a new shadow icon. What's more, as a bonus, and we've had to go to Venture Capitalists for this, but we might also manage a new transparency icon as well. But I have to be careful what I say because if competitors found out about the new icons, they might change their development priorities and try create new icons of their own.

And we have to be careful that if new prospective customers find out that new icons are coming they stop buying the product and wait for the new version. That we can't afford. (Jesting aside, the truth is that explains much of why I can't go into much detail about future products, especially dates.)

But I like the plugin idea.

And we've not been working on it for four years. I have to say a lot of the work done over the last few years has just been scrapped (mostly animation work). It was simply not to the required standard. I'm the original chief architect of what was Xara Studio / CorelXARA, but I took my eye off the ball for a few years, but I'm now back in charge of this project. My standards are very high. But it takes huge amounts of time and effort to get real quality.

Can you at least let us know if Xara Ltd. will be expanding their distribution into places like Fry's Superstore and Best Buy?? Here in the USA these are stores that have a wonderful selection of software and I would really love to see XaraX and Xara3D and others gracing the shelves or should I say flying off of the shelves!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

--- I think constructive criticism is good... and criticism due to frustrations - is inevitable. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif It’s not like we haven’t waited for Xara X be touched, for a looong, looong time... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I’m not really upset with the Xara X right now, (we’ll see how long this update takes first... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) I use it all the time. However, if the Adobe Illustrator export was (close to) spot on – life would be even more fun.

I draw such simple things right now, that I’m able to get everything into Illustrator (when needed) – and with a minimum of finessing. Actually, just drawing with lines - and coverting the whole tamale to shapes to be filled, turned out the be the most fun I have ever had with Xara X - and no matter what kind of crazy vector brush I create, it all works perfectly in Illustrator (witn no finessing.)

However, I can understand the frustrations of people who draw more complex things than I.

I must say, as a person who uses XaraX strictly for the fun of it and as a hobby, I do get a kick out of hearing so much made over Xara's incompatibility with other programs. It's a non-factor for me. Personally, I'd rather see all their effort put into making more/easier features for XaraX rather than trying to address the complaint that "It doesn't play well with others."

    Anywho... that's my $0.02.
