if all else fails... Reload windows... that really sounds like the culprit but it is such a pain to do... when was the last time you reloaded your system? The longest I have gone is about 3 years, then it is just so full of crap, you have to reload.

Apologies if it has already been tried, but I read only the first and last few messages here. Unfathomable error messages can often be pinned to faulty RAM chips.. if you have two chips to make your RAM total (eg you have 768MB from 256+512), try booting your PC with them plugged in the other way around, and then try just one at a time.

    Hello,

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, the new, revitalised, proud owner of the one, the only , the fully functional, Xara X1 software http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. Yes, after days of headaches and turmoil but with an extraordinary and unprecidented level of help from Talk Graphics Forum particularily Mike, Gary, John R, John C, Soquili and others and from CS of Xara ltd who solved the problem I can now run Xara X1 http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. I can almost hear the round of applause http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. And the answer to the problem.....Autosplellchecker - can you believe it http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif. I never had Microsoft Office when I bought this PC so had to use Microsoft works and downloaded Autospellchecker from the internet @ http://www.spellchecker.com/ . And this seemingly harmless piece of software was the cause of it all ! Just because I carnt spel proply I woz givn orl thiz greef !! Just a little joke there http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif. So the moral of this tale ? If you can't spell get yourselves a dictionary or ask a teacher. Many thanks once again for all your help and time,

    Ballpoint.

    Wow!!! That is terrific.

This thread had become a kind of soap opera and for a while there it did not look like the ending was going to be a happy one.

How did you determine that it was the spell checker?

    Gary

    Hello John R and Gary,

Thanks very much indeed for your message. I must apologise to Talk Graphics if I have left too many posts but it would be bad mannered of me not to say thank you to peoples messages http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. As for how it was determined that spellchecker was the problem....I don' t know actually . I meant to ask CS at Xara who solved the problem but forgot...let's hope he reads this http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif. Anyhow spellchecker never worked properly, it spelled Citroen with an 'S' http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif.
