I took a kind of different approach. At first I tried the Stained glass approach, but wanted to have an actual editable object.

First I played around with the brightness and contrast of the bitmap placing the Brightness all the way up, the contrast about 90%, and the color all the way down.
I then put it through the bitmap tracer on Grayscale with the
Remove Noise: 0%
Minimum Area: 0%
Fine Color Tolerance: 100%
Accuracy: 100%
Smoothing: 10%

I then grouped all the white shapes together and subtracted that from the black, giving me an editable shape as shown below. But as with David's, this would mostly only work with a high contrast bitmap between the objects

I have had a very lousy result using David's method. My poor tree hardly shows, as you'll see, below. So I'll try your method...

Roman - I can't really try your method since I don't have a tablet - but I'm glad to see you appreciate this isn't the easiest thing to do.

Here's the XAR. file, just steal from that...

Alright, hold on, way too big of file! It'll take me a few minutes

Ok, here it is, much smaller file!

I will have to try something like D. King and Steve posted. They look good. Romans looks good too but might be hard with a tablet. I am a mouser.

It seems that I've unwantedly forced the impression that that it's harder with mouse. Fact is that I'm a lazy person and I simply got overeaten with that small mouse movements. With tablet you're more accuarate, also it's more comfortable to paint all that small tiny holes. You can make more jagged line but as I had smoothing enabled (abuot 5%) still it's not that jaggy ;-). Thanx for challenge, what is next? ... the "feel" of the image ... it took about 30 minutes.

- 1 rectangle for the tree trunk.
- Some cloned ovals for the tree + copy of the same with transparency.
- Blended ovals for the sky + copy of the same with transparency.
- Circle for the moon and a top shape to mute the colors of the picture.

It turned out pretty neat, I think.

Cool tree, Risto!
I like this idea. Maybe I'll even give it a try...

Nice work, everyone!
