..when the next version of Xara will come out and what are some of the new features? Will it be a new version or functionality added by a service pack or something? I don't want to have to tolerate the timespan between 1.5 and X again.

I would either like to hear a date or a list of features. The other guys have their flagship vector products out. What's the harm in revealing a few of the new features?

I have not heard a peep about the next release. I would not expect anything before the end of the year.
