Hi everyone! I'm new here and I thought I'd post how I use Xara. I'm a professional quilter and all of my custom made wall hangings are designed in Xara. From my finished design, I duplicate each piece and add the seam allowance very easily with the contour tool, then I print out all of the templates. I also scan in whatever fabrics I'm going to use to make a new fill gallery for each project. By doing this, I can see exactly what the finished quilt will look like before I cut anything. Here are a few pictures plus the Xara file for this quilt.

    Hello Michelle,

Welcome to Talkgraphics! Beautiful quilts you have there. I attempted a quilt once... Gave up mighty quick. Do you machine stich or hand stich your quilts?

    Miquel,
Nice looking box and disc. I wish I could draw one half that good.

    Michelle,
Another great use for Xara! I love the photo quilt ... is the bottom one going to be a family tree?

Very nice horses, Ron. But doesn't the one on the right look just a little bit like Adolf Hitler?...

Hi again! Thanks for the compliments! Yes, quilting is much harder than it looks. The designs are easy, it's the construction that's a bear. Most people don't realize how much work goes into making custom quilts, stained glass, hand-crafted woodwork, etc. John, I machine stitch most of my commercial quilts, but I like to hand stitch my own! The photo quilts are really neat. It turned into a full-time business for me quite by accident. In my previous life (before I was domesticated!) I used to draw/design with Xara. I'm an old student of Gary's! You can see some of my digital work here...

...and here's an example of a quickie Xara image...

The quilting was something I did as a hobby until people started offering me money to make them!!! Now I've combined my love of computer graphics (and Xara!!!) with my love of hand crafts.

Ron- I looove the horses! You did an excellent job! I especially like the gleaming dark brown horse.
