    Now what?

    Will it change our life?

    Will it prepare my breakfast?

Will it pour new customers into our offices?

    Is it creative?

Does it add a **real** value to anything?

    Who will benefit from it?

Will it change the way we develop ideas?

Will it turn the world more real?

Will it support the design process?

After all the hype and the countless Internet companies that went down the gutter the last months, will this be another hype, bursting like a soap bubble in a few weeks?

Remove all bells and whistles and take a second look. Then think about it: what's left?

    Nothing. Nada. Nichts. Rien.

Birds had 150 million years to develop into beauties. And now some nobrainers come up in less than what seems to be an ultrashort flash compared to millions of years of evelolution with a 'new standard' that's supposed to change the world instantly.

    Ha. Ha. Ha.

SVG doesn't prevent millions of people all over the world starving. It doesnt't cure any disease. It's only another gimmick for the few fancy and event driven kids on what they call the most important media today: the Internet.

    So where is the kick?

Needless to say that it's only a 'recommendation'. Which means it's far away from being a standard.

Now let's get back to work which makes more sense and dollars than wanna-be-standards.

    Think negative, produce negative results.

SVG however might be too little too late. Like the great Beta vs VHS videotape battle.

Flash is so well accepted that anything else is going to have a steep road to climb.

    SVG is awesome!

Imagine being able to create vector graphics without a design tool, i.e. using Notepad. (I'm not talking about creating complex vector illustrations like the excellent ones found here.)

Imagine being able to use javascript to manipulate vector images in real time.

The possibilities of SVG are enourmous.

If you haven't checked out the latest SVG examples at Adobe, you should. Go here: SVG Download the plugin and check out the examples.

There is a very cool drawing tool created with SVG.

I hope Xara jumps all over SVG!

And yes jens, it could change your life!

Tsk, Tsk, such bad attitude lately. No where did I say it would change the world, or feed the hungry (though if we implemented open source currency, we may be on our way to a solution). In any case, I'm glad my theory (point number three) about people and opinions turned out to be correct. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. [insert silly emoticons where necessary]

Anyway, as some may or may not know, one of the proposed features that didn't make it into XaraX was SVG export, possibly due to SVG not being a finalized spec. Well, now it is.

I like SVG idea. Couple more tags to learn to make couple of things easier to accomplish and less d/l time consuming. Nice. If it would be supported in new browsers problem would be in the compatibility with the older browsers.

Jens is quite correct. svg isn't going to save the world, but niether is anything in this forum! What I would like is a bog standard vector graphic standard for the web. I suspect the majority of members of this forum create their graphics using Xara.....then what do we do then? To publish it on the web we convert the image to a raster (jpg, gif or png) file!!!
I don't want an all singing all dancing vector format, to be manipulated in Flash or Java. All I want is to be able to create a vector image and have a universal standard that allows me to post the image direct to the web.
That should'nt be to much to ask for.......but don't highjack it with fancy manipulation techniques. Lets walk before we can run.
