A server-side dynmaic image generation program based on the Xara X rendering engine.

It installs on your web server (ideally both IIS and Apache), and you can pass it explicit information in the form of type of shapes and co-ordinates, as well as the ability to use pre-made templates where aspects can be dynamically replaced). The generation engine then processes these parameters and generates an image for display on your web site in the format of your choice.

I'd love that ability, but I don't think that it will ever happen.

I just wish Xara could find a genuine partner, willing to invest money and back them with marketing skills so that Xara could become the company we all know they deserve to be.

This sounds like the old Flash Generator which has now evolved into Flash Remoting. You used to define a flash template, and through a text file/database, etc. could update the template with real life content. If was slick enought to generate very nice GIF if you could not push the flash. Etrade made a great use of this technology.

Remoting is supposed to do the same plus it plugs in nicely with .NET.

I agree, FLash with Xara's graphics engine would be just the cherry on top.

you might try PHP coding plus the npxara plug-in. But this plug-in will have trouble with pic from the X version.

Otherwise I'd dig deep into FLASH as Milton said.

I mean FLASH isn't that bad, and if you define highest quality it comes close to Xara X.

    Jens

Can you tell me any more on this, please?

I have used the GD library with php for graphs, but some more power would be useful...

    Thanks in advance.

    you are welcome:

    http://www.xara.com/downloads/plugin/

download it, execute it and open a Xara file without transparencies, bevels, shadows and all the nifty stuff in X. Or save your pic in *.web format. However, you must set up your server to handle the mime type for XAR and Web files... maybe someone else can help you on this one, I don't remember it.

I remember this now. It's not quite what I hoped - every visitor needs it too.

I think Flash seems the likeliest best route for now.
