I crashed my Windows 2000 last week and after I got Windows repaired the following problems apeared for two program (of course the two programs I like most - Xara X and Wings 3D):

When I start Xara X the following error message apears: GetRawIndexDeviceList could not be found in the dynamic link library user32.dll

After I click away the messages I can use Xara normally, but the same message pops up again when I start a new document.

And it is teh same with Wings 3D: the message pops up at start but the program works fine.

I have tried to reinstall Xara X but it doesn't help.

Have you installed the service packs after re-installing W2K.

Yes, I have... But on the other hand I read in another forum that hotfixes may result in user32.dll errors. The problem is to find out which hotfix it is http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

    Hi Paul,

It sounds like you may have some errors in the Registry. Have you used a registry cleaning tool? I would recommend the Symantec Norton System Works. The regclean utility from Microsoft only cleans the parts of the registry specific to Windows, leaving entries for other programs untouched.

Run the cleaning program, then open Xara or Wings3D to see if the problem has been corrected. If it still persists, uninstall both programs and re-run the cleaning program before installing again.

    It's fixed!

It wasn't the Serveice packs or Hotfixes, but DirectX. I downloaded the latest DX and it worked again.

BTW, I should learn to better (even though it in the middle of the night I wrote down the error message): The error message was about GetRawInputDeviceList not being found in user32.dll (a new search in Google with correct message gave me teh answer)
