Anyone recommend a good thumbnail creation prog.??

I am FINALLY getting some of the art ready to upload and I really want a nice, feature rich, affordable Gallery creation prog that will generate the HTML for me so all I have to do is insert it into the PagePlus program (which is a nice program, BTW! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif )

It's too bad that Xara Ltd. didn't come out with an application like this, I would give them the money!!

    Thanks kindly! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

There's one called HTML PhotoGallery that I have been looking at:

    http://www.vikarplus.com/english-index.html

as well as the one Grant mentioned "Arles Image Web Page Creator". Both have their good points!

Now which one to use??? Sheesh I feel like a civil servant standing at an intersection ??? Hmmm which way to go??? Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, Decisions,.... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've done a bit of searching for decent web gallery generating programs recently and came up with a short list of favorites.

The one I settled on is the same as mentioned above, Arles Image Web Page Creator. A bit expensive, but probably worth it at the moment. Below is a list I generated for a friend,

    - Pete

    Arles Image Web Page Creator
    http://www.digitaldutch.com/
Very nice piece of software that creates indexed web pages complete with thumbnails from a set of digital images. It's probably the best of the bunch, but also might be the most complicated to use.

A similar but somewhat simpler piece of software is:

    Express Thumbnail Creator
    http://www.express-soft.com/etc/
Looks like there is a free older version and a new shareware. Looks pretty good.

A few decent free options are:

    Web Album Generator
    http://www.ornj.net/software/webalbum/index.html
Web album generator seems to be the easiest of the bunch and is worth a look.

    Gallery Wizard
    http://www.b-zone.de/software/galwiz.htm
    Also looks easy to use.......

    EGG - Easy Gallery Generator
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tirain/egg/
Has a few more features, but still simple....

    JAlbum
    http://www.datadosen.se/jalbum/index.jsp
Also has a few more features, including a built-in ftp client, so you can upload directly from within the program.

Finally, if you want a few more options,
Steve's Digicams has a pretty decent list of similar software at
    http://www.steves-digicams.com/digsoftware.html.

In PHP (server side scripting language) It's possible to program server side thumbnail Making. Even zip file can be uploaded with images and unzipped on the side of server. The displaying of the images is designed by independent HTML template. Content (images/comments) is generated from the database into the template, so there is no need to play with HTML and upload thousand small static files.

    http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif great responses!! Thanks much.

I have and love my XnView for viewing odd image file types, I was not aware that it had this function but, well I tried it, very simple to do but if there are more than 3 or 4 rows the table gets all strange looking but it's nice to know in case everything else fails me.

Grant, I tried going out to look at the example but I was denied and even tried it in IE and was given the ole' "This Page Can Not Be Displayed" thing! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Xara Ltd. has a way to do on line galleries but you have to pay them monthly or yearly, that sucks, so I don't think so on that one!!

Reji, the HTML Photo Gallery was a bit strange, I looked over the example pages and I think I will look elsewhere, but thanks very much!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Simon, the CompuPic Pro looks really good but my god, $80.00 for a glorified image viewer, WOW!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif but I'm still considering it!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Hmmmm, Arles being suggested two times, maybe, maybe not!! Express Thumbnail Creator I have used in the past but only as a trial and I THINK I remembered that I liked it. Looks a little more spiffed up than the last time I used it. The free bees I have all tried out and wouldn't you know it, the very last one I haven't tried JAlbum looks very nice indeed and the site is done well and the guy is very generous with the extras. One other side note is this guy is really on the ball here, he has the program available for Windows, Linux, Mac, IBM's AIX, Solaris, HP UX, OS/2, Any UNIX platform, and a few others. That's very impressive to me!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Seems like the one that I will try and work with.

OH, Dmagician, I figured that one of the Serif programs would do it too but are your referring to PagePlus or PhotoPlus?? I have both but I don't really like PhotoPlus so far so I am not using it. IMHO it needs more work!

    Thanks very much everyone!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
