Logo opinion

The company I work for is having a logo contest. The theme is "Excellent People, Excellent Work"

The logo has to be 12x12 and one color. I would like your opinion before I have to turn this in Friday.

Randy, I'm not a graphic designer, so take this for what it's worth. I find it a little too busy. Also, the fonts are not consistent, nor are they the type I would use to communicate "excellence." For that, I'd be more inclined to use something like Copperplate Gothic. To me, it's more formal. I've attached a sample.

A bird that has that large of an object in it's beak would present an open beaked type of a siloquette. Where's Maya? She's the bird expert in here!!

The beak that you have presented here, IMHO, is that I am seeing two things that strike me as off. The one mentioned above and the point of the beak seems a bit too high on the other side of the object that it is holding. I know it's a stylized version but I think that area needs a bit of work.

I am not so sure about the bird. I thought it was a pidgeon and the theme was PEACE. I can't see the connection between the bird and the garland to EXCELLENCE at all. If they are company symbols, fine .... but, otherwise, you might want to think of an alternative. My first impression was this was something for the United Nations.

I hope I am not coming off too hard. It's not my intention.

I do agree with you to a point. The dove was not my first choice. My first thought was a bust profile of Ceaser type person. But I had a hard time getting that across with only one color.
I was/am reaching the deadline so I thought of the dove. I actually got the idea from searching on the web for the word Excellence and saw a couple of images using dove's.

I have seen the use of the capital letter Q and also the Check symbol used to convey quality (eg., a quality check or check list).

Have you thought of a stylized Q which resembles a human head?

John - That is an interesting idea. I will see what I can come up with tonight. If I can get something I am happy with I will post.
