Here's a snaek peek at the new Xara-X.com format for those of you that are interested.

This is only a very early preview and much may change, but this is what I'm up to at the moment...

    Comments anyone??

It looks OK for a start page, but negative text is NOT good for legibility. So please don't use that scheme on the regular pages!

I am planning to put most of the "main" stuff inside a white frame type thing (getting technical here!) on the inside of the site... however I'm not sure what is wrong with white text on dark blue...

Could somebody explain this, as I've never had a problem with legiblilty on sites like this...

It's a General, Well-known Good Rule about Typography! Masses of negative text is *tiring* to the eyes, and should only be used sparingly.

Get a basic book on type, my friend.

I don't know anything about typography, but for me, negative text is like putting one of those laser pointer things straight into my eye ball.

I'm starting to get interested in your web site concept Michael and I was the biggest whiner about the whole thing. So don't chase me away with that eye killing type stuff.

OK... so the general census is against negative text... I open to learning stuff and if it makes you all so unhappy then I will modify my design.

Personally tough, I have never had any sort of problem with negative text and it doesn't hurt my eyes in any way... but if this is not the norm then i will change it.

I will post a revision soon!

Thanx for agreeing to change the colour scheme. If you had kept it, I would never visit (but that may not really bother you) and I'm sure others would act the same way. Oddly, yellow on dark blue is OK, though that has "similar values".

Actually I was told by an art-director from a multimedia company that they prefer (negative) text on dark backgrounds due to the "rule" that it won't tire your eyes too soon (the dark backbround)!?! So there doesn't seem to be a concensus about this...

BTW: the company I'm talking about is quite successful, at least from an artistic point of view. They won several awards in Cannes so far.

An art director of a multimedia company flying in the face of what all the usability experts say - I've never heard of such a thing!
