Working outside the box

While trying to match the screen gray screen color for this conference I tried dragging Xara's eyedropped tool off the page and into the conference, and guess what? It worked.

You can sample colors from anywhere.

You probably already knew this, huh?

Someone else already posted that useful observation. That said, it remains worthwhile to note it again. Semiologists say we absorb new things when they are presented to us three times. Two times isn't nearly as good as three times. Three times is best.

...that was pretty funny.

Within Xara's client area (drawing area) the dropper reads the document not the screen, which may be using 256 colours and / or dithering. Anywhere else on the desktop it just looks at the actual screen pixel.
