I like to use the Shape Editor Tool to draw a series of straight lines. Then I use the Shape Editor Tool to drag the line segments into curves.

This is one of Xara's best drawing features.

Yup. I use this straight-line/curve later approach to trace over complicated maps. Simple as pie.
