    when i paste a bitmap i get the options:-
    "bitmap/device independant bitmap etc."

    whats the difference?

    When you paste as bitmap it comest to xara in the same pixel size as it really has, but it is somehow converted to different palete (sometimes the color quality of the bitmap seems worse to me)

    Pasting as device independent bitmap pastes the bitmap in some 66% of it's original size of course it still has the same physical size, but it's just displayed smaller. Color pallete doesn't change.

    No warranty though ;-)

    thanks roman, so i'll paste it as max quality in future...is that as just bmp?

    for max quality I would reccomend device independent. But I think you should test it for yourself. Best way how to find the difference is like this.

    Make a gradient in xara, export it to bitmap.
    Load bitmap to some bitmap editor.

    Copy and paste it into xara as Bitmap.
    Again copy it and paste it as device independent.
