Well, I worked on it long enough to answer my question about giving the text outline an opposite gradient fill. Brad, thanks for the challenge. I enjoyed working with your little project. I'm curious about your font. What's the name of it and where do I find it? I really like it.

Well I didn't have the perfect answer but at least I got the ball rollin'!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Great place to roll balls, every one wants to play and as you can see you got lots of input, eh?? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

PS: I do have to say I really like dafipp's solution with the capped ends of the text using a nose and tail fin instead of trying to get the letters to conform to such an awkward form!!

    Have fun!!

This is like the LSP board on the site I work on, very helpful and friendly (had a few flamers last week, can't always avoid it I guess).

I really like the Warhawk with the 2 endcaps. A friend in Australia who restores P-40's (what a job!!) was thinking of something like that for a logo, got me wondering if it could be done in Xara (he never asked, just sounded like a good test of what Xara could do)...I'm amazed at what can be done with this little program!!

here is the .xar file in case you or your friend are interested in using it. I never found the font you used on my Xara CD. Also my plane outline was traced from the first picture you posted not the original xar file that came later. Have fun with it.

First I traced your outline using the pen shift tool with a black outline. I cloned it (ctrl + k), selected transparent
for the fill, and red for the outline on the copy, bringing it to the front. I used impact for the font and sized the text to approximately that of the outline. I converted it to editable shapes and ungrouped each letter. I then moved the red plane outline to the front. The shape editor tool was used to conform the letters to the outline of the plane as closely as possible. I then deleted the two plane outlines, added a slightly rounded bevel and a drop shadow.
