I was creating a button that resembles those flat glass marble things you see in fish bowls and flower vases. I don't know if that is a good enough description but anyway. I kind of got the fill effect I want but I cannot get the round edge effect. When I bevel it I get a frame around the circle. Anyway does anybody know how to make this effect.

If my attachment is something like what you're looking for. It's made using a clone of the circle, give it a white fill and no line colour. Clone the white circle and give it a black fill. Offset the black circle down and to the right then Shift+Select the white circle Arrange>>Combine Shapes>>Subtract shapes. Feather the resulting crescent shape and give it a flat mix transparency. Repeat the cloning and then Offset up and to the left for the opposite side.
Hope this helps.

To make this, I:
1) overlaid your marble with a circle;
2) filled the circle with the dark blue colour sampled from the outer edge of your marble;
3) gave the circle a circular transparency of 100% in the middle, and 49% at the edge, with a profile of -0.6/-0.1;
4) cloned the circle, changed the edge transparency to 0%, and changed the profile to -0.9/-0.1;
5) cloned the circle again, changed the edge transparency to 87.5%, and gave it a profile of 0.28/-0.1.
Or, in simpler terms, I made a series of blue circles one at a time, playing, as I made each one, with their circular transparencies until I got approximately the result I was after.
It looks as though you would need to reposition the reflective highlight relative to the various layers of circles, perhaps on top.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Glen.
