... sort of...

It involved:

- 864 squares (objects) filled manually
- duplicate of the same to work as a filter
- one square as a backdrop
- one bottle of wine
- one broken mouse
- one bruised finger
- one aggrevated wife
- 4 hours of my life (which I could have used for something better - like TV)... nah

Why did I do this? - Because I wanted to see what it would look like...

Neato Risto. Back in 1996 I had an idea for a website that involved an image concept like yours. I thought it would be neat to create an image map where each square in the image was a link to somewhere else. Technically the coding wasn't hard but I came to realize that the code for hundreds of links can result in significant file sizes (html) and I abandoned the idea. Seeing your image makes me want to revisit it. Hmmm... Perhap it could be done in Swish2???

..that's cool!

What would happen in a 75% reduction?

I had been fooling around with something similar but was reluctant to post it because I thought maybe there wasn't much value in it. But you broke the ice...so..here tis.

Great to see another door opened! "864 objects filled manually?" you must have the patience of a saint! but it's paid off!

cheers

Risto,
Rack up another winner.

I hope you don't mind this little test. Since your image looks like a bit map blown-up and all pixelatted, I wondered what would happen if I the reversed process. Would it look like a photo? This was resampled down to approximately 25% of the original screen capture, then give a tiny bit of a gaussian blur.

... I sincerely hope that none actually thought I colored in my grid of squares, just out of the blue! I don't think that there was a ever a person that could "paint" a picture like that on a 36x24 square...

I used a "pixelated"?! image where I transfared the color values from, to a grid of squares that I had created.

I have been playing around with some of Xara's tools on all those squares but haven't been able to come up with anything clever Perhaps it was 4 hours wasted after all.

Not a waste Risto! The result made it all worthwhile! And here's my little test...

Your original idea is what was important. I enjoy your work as always.

Composing a "mosaic/collage" of other images to generate a different, larger image might be an interesting challenge/puzzle. Perhaps such a picture could incorporate images from the proposed "xara user's gallery".

Did you try something like a chiseled bevel to all the individual squares?
