    The August 15 Xara Xone

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

The deadline for the Wheels Group Show is the 20th. Your images to not have to be as tight as Ron Duke's. A cartoon is cool. An impressionistic image is cool. A line art image is cool. In other words, if it has a wheel, it's cool.

    Great Workbook Gary!

I've been using the stained glass technique forever ... but the bleach tip was a new one on me

I like the single spiral version of the logo best ... but I would guess that the client will like the last one.

Your watermark techniques are great ... but as always Xara is very flexible.
    My way:
    Create copyright symbol
add Flat, Contrast, Outer bevel with light angle down right.
Apply 30% Mix transparency to object
Apply 8-10% feather (I use .10in - if you use pixels experiment)

You can now play with the object or bevel color to achieve the desired effect on a variety of different colored backgrounds.

Not as good as yours ... but works for me

You did a terrific job with my two "challenges," Gary. I'll have to come up with something more difficult next time as you make it look easy. Makes me think, "Now why couldn't I think up something like that?" So stay tuned for Zeb's challenges 3 & 4, 5 & 6, etc.

hi i am just trying your tutorial on watermarks but cannot get past teh first paragraph.

To create a copyright symbol in Xara X, with the Num Lock key enabled on your keyboard's keypad, hold down the Alt key and key in 0169 on the numeric keypad. Format the copyright symbol in a font of your choice. I have used Verdana Bold at 250pt.

i use a notebook and dont have a numerical keypad. if i do the above using my numerical keys along the top nothing happens.

    what do i do?

    Hi Razgo,

    Welcome to the forum.

Most laptops have a NumLoc key just like full keyboards do. It changes the right hand letters to numbers. Check your keyboard for small numbers on the J K L U I O and M keys. Some manufacturers make the small numbers a different colour than the letters.

The NumLoc with the numbers on the letters should give the same results. Don't use the default numbers along the top row of keys (typewriter numbers).

On my Dell laptop I have to hold the Fn and Alt Keys while entering the 0169 to get the copy right symbol.

ah ok i got it now, thanks. that was a little confusing finding those keys.

in my case on my acer laptop pressing F11 brings up the bitmap gallery. so i have to use the function key and then press numlock. and then locat those keys with the smaller numbers on them.

all good now , thanks very much for your help
    thanks

I'm glad it is working for you

Just some info for anyone using other brands of laptop computers.
On an IBM ThinkPad once Numloc is activated all that needs to be held is the Alt key when entering the 4 digit number for the character you want. Compaq laptops work the same as the IBM. Looks like my Dell is the oddball of having to hold Fn and Alt at the same time.
