WD6 Another Tasty Tweak (sort of) Site FAVICON

    • Create your 16x16 favicon.ico by any method you like, I use IcoFX
    • Save the favicon.ico to your export folder (same folder as index.htm)
    • Drop the attached Add-Favicon.xar into your Web Designer design in the first page (index) and place it somewhere on the pasteboard.

    Done

To add this tweak to your Designs Gallery for repeat use:

    • Create a folder in My Documents (for example) and name it something like wd6-tweaks.
    • Place the Add-Favicon.xar into the folder.
    • Open up Web Designer Designs Gallery and press the 'Disc Designs' button
    • Navigate to your just created wd6-tweaks folder then press the 'Add' button.
The folder will then appear in your Designs Gallery.

If you wish to rename the created path name from the Designs Gallery, download XaReg from the XaraXone Shareware pages, run the program, select WebDesigner 6.0 then choose Tools>>Design/Clipart Gallery.
Find the entry in the list, click twice and enter the name you'd prefer and press the button 'Write List'.

    Done

    Steve,

Just a thought but would it be too much trouble to start a sticky thread that contains these tweeks? I know that you only have a few so far, but I (looking into my crystal ball) can see more on their way. Perhaps you can add the NoAutoHighlight navbar naming method as well.

I just think it would be nice to have all of these resources in one place.

    Hi Sledger,

I did everything you said for adding a favicon to my web page.
When i open my website it only shows the favicon on the first (index) page and not on the following pages. I think i did everything correct because the favicon is working on the first page.

I still use XWD version 5, not version 6. Could that be the problem?

    Thanks in advance

Correctly placed favicons once loaded are domain wide.
It has nothing to do with WD versions.

    Sledger,

Will you take a look at it please?
I will send you the link to my page and the .xar file.
But is there a way to send it private?

.xar? I thought you used Web Designer?

In any case, you don't need to add it to every page, if the favicon.ico appears in the browser address bar or tab when the contents of the index.htm page are displayed on screen it's because the browser has loaded the favicon.ico for that domain - it won't unload it when displaying another *.htm file that exists on the same domain.

According to Wiki: Most web browsers do not require any HTML to retrieve a favicon that conforms to the de facto file name and type (favicon.ico) located in the web site's root. If no favicon link is detected upon HTML page load completion and no previous site visits are recorded in the browser's history, a favicon.ico is requested automatically.
