yes the duplication can be set to 0 or other +/- values in options at bottom right of general tab - often useful if you just want one axis at 0 for using duplication to make rows and columns

my only excuse [and it's a poor one] is that contour width defaults to 'page' units and not 'font' units, but...

ok - the contour method would do it, but that is not defined in point size

I just looked at a video on corel behind fill - it looks to me like that is simply what xara does anyway, I'm not convinced there is any need to use another tool - but it depends what the requirement...
not sure what the corelraw function is..
in xara the outline is always half behind and half outside the fill
so can you clarify exactly what you are after - thanks
